"Il Palio del Drappo Verde e Rosso"
Saturday, July 10th - 8:00 AM
Il Palio Del Drappo Verde e Rosso is an ancient Italian race that was begun in several Italian city-states dating back to the early 1200s. The race is believed to have celebrated the independence of city-states from ruling families. Originally, only males ran the race and the runners ran naked. The winner received a green cloth and the last place runner received a rooster or similar fowl. Later, women were permitted to run the race. The female winner was awarded the green cloth while the male winner was awarded a red cloth. Proper clothing is required for the race on July 10, 2010!
Race proceeds will be donated to the Interval Brotherhood Home (IBH) which provides long-term residential, alcohol and rehabilitation services.
Race starts and ends at Tallmadge High School.
$18 entry fee. Prizes will be awarded.
There will also be a 1 mile fun walk.
